Candidate Bio
Today Bob Clegg enjoys a successful career, a wonderful family and a public service record to be proud of. But how he got here is a tale of tough days, hard work, big dreams and a stint in the school of hard-knocks. Quite simply, Bob Clegg has enjoyed the American Dream and today he is working to see that everyone has the opportunity to achieve what he has.

Born in Massachusetts, Bob’s parents struggled daily to provide for him and his 6 brothers and sister. Through them, he learned early that every job done with pride is an honorable job, and he began delivering newspapers, working as a shoe shine boy and, in high school, working in maintenance at a Nursing Home.

His family moved to New Hampshire. After graduating High School in Nashua and being unable to afford higher education, Bob went to work in the construction industry taking work wherever he could find it and building himself up to eventually own his own construction company, as well as other small businesses.

Bob has always felt it was important to be a good member of the community and that in order to be such you have to give back what you have been given...and a little bit more. He began volunteering his time and talents to various organizations and causes in his hometown of Hudson where he has served as: town councilor, selectman, member of the Budget Committee, Building Board of Appeals, Economic Development Committee, and Charter Study Committee. In 1993, the Hudson Chamber of Commerce recognized Bob as its Citizen of the Year. He also has been recognized by Hudson Post #48 for his work on behalf of veterans.

During his four terms in the New Hampshire House of Representatives Bob served in several leadership positions including Speaker Pro Tempore, Assistant Majority Leader and Majority Caucus Whip. He has been named Legislator of the Year by the National Republican Legislators Association, and Home Builders & Remodelers Association of New Hampshire.

In 2002, Bob was elected to represent District 14 in the New Hampshire State Senate. He has been a leader, working on some of the most difficult issues facing our state including the budget, education funding and energy. He has also served as Majority Leader of the New Hampshire Senate.

Through all the recognition by colleagues, professional organizations and industry groups, Bob has always kept his attention on why he is where he is: to serve the people of his community his district and all New Hampshire.

Bob is a member of the United States Police Canine Association (USPCA) and a Board member of the USPCA Foundation. He is past President of the Hudson Taxpayers Association, Chairman of the State Building Code Review Board and a member of the Masons.

He and his wife, Priscilla, have been married for 34 years. They reside in Hudson and have two grown children, Jeff and Jessica. He also enjoys a close extended family including his former exchange student Teresa and her daughter Sydney, who live in Mozambique.
